YOUTH AND ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE

Photographs

Our youth are our future and if we care we ought to take best care of our present resources - our youth. In past decades many of us have not taken care of Mother Earth. We have harmed the environment by polluting the air, the water, the land. We have harmed the plant life, the fish, the animals and we have been bold enough to harm - human life.

Islais Creek has been there for ages. We have a small piece of land that we treasure. We the people took charge of this land and cleaned it. At one time it was infested with drug paraphernalia and other trash. We planted native plants, nurtured the frogs and other animals life, cared for the birds and before you know it - we had paradise.

Two days before Thanks Giving right in the middle of this beautiful park - named the Muwekma Park and Sanctuary there was a sewer pipe collapse. Most of the park was destroyed. There remains a small portion to remind us of humans who can do good. And then there is that part destroyed which reminds of human who are capable of great harm.

Youth In Action represent those who can do good. They visited the Park on Saturday, February 23, 2002 and helped maintain the little that remains untouched by destruction. It is good that our youth care about the environment. It is good that they care about human justice.
